PDP vows to challenge Cross River governorship election result in court
Prof Sandy Ojang Onor, the governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State l, has vowed to challenge the outcome in court.
Onor argued that the exercise was flawed.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the election in the state with 258, 619 as against PDP’s 179,636.
But in a press statement after the election, Onor said the election declared results did not represent the will of the people because the process was marred by “a plethora of irregularities. The Independent National Electoral Commission was neither independent nor impartial.”
It added that “INEC officials aided by security personnel manipulated the system, altered results at various collation levels and frustrated the will of the majority of Cross Riverians. Indeed, the election of Saturday 18° March, 2023 was characterized by outright vote buying, intimidation of voters and violence, which regrettably led to loss of lives.
“We express our heartfelt sympathies to the families of these heroes of democracy. We assure you that the perpetrators of this crime shall be brought justice, if not by man, by God.
“This is tailored to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the vast majority of Cross Riverians. We are confident that we will get justice. We appeal to our teeming supporters across the length and breadth of our dear state to remain calm and put their trust in God, who ultimately gives power. “
Recall that a few days before the election, PDP in the state had raised the alarm over massive police deployment to Cross River North by the state government. In a press statement issued earlier, PDP described the move “as part of a grand plan to intimidate voters and militarise election in the area, which is a PDP stronghold in order to rig the election for the APC whose candidate in the senatorial district, the incumbent Governor Ben Ayade lost his bid to sitting Senator Jerigbe Agom Jerigbe.
Adamawa APC reverses suspension of SGF, Boss Mustapha
The Adamawa State executive members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has dismissed the purported suspension of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, from the party by his ward, as an exercise in futility.
While addressing journalists on Thursday, in Yola, the state Chairman of the party, Samaila Tadawus, said the alleged suspension of the SGF is a joke taking too far.
“APC Adamawa State chapter has reversed recent alleged suspension of the SGF by party exco in its Gwadabawa Ward, Yola North Council,” he said.
The visibly angry Tadawus accused the opposition party of sponsoring the suspension ahead of the coming re-run of governorship poll in the state.
Tadawus, who described the suspension as unconstitutional, null and void, and is of no effect based on the Constitution of the party, directed all opposition parties to stay away from APC activities.
The APC state Chairman directed the Yola-North Council executive committee to constitute a disciplinary committee immediately and recommend appropriate actions against those that were involved in what he described as disgraceful act.
Abaribe urges INEC to declare Alex Otti as Abia governor-elect
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, on Tuesday asked the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) to declare Dr. Alex Otti of the Labour Party the Abia State Governor-elect.
Abaribe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), toldNews Expresson phone Tuesday that Otti won last Saturday’s election.
“Everybody wants this evil government by Okezie (Gov Ikpeazu) in Abia to end,” Abaribe stated.
He added that “PDP does not have the spread as required by the law to win the election, no matter how much money they have bribed the INEC.
“PDP has only six LGA in this election and that cannot give them a win. The Obingwa result they’re contesting, we know how many voters the BVAS accredited. We will not accept anything more than that. Enough of PDP’s rigging in Abia,” said Abaribe.
